I was ice burned. By the cashier of a health food store in Austin, no less.
I was with rctbob and thoink_dragon, talking about something in Japanese as a result of the many fine Japanese products throughout the store, when the cashier turned to me and offhandedly remarked, "The other day some guy came up to me and told me that I should learn Chinese so that when the Chinese take over the government I'll be ready."
I responded, "You should learn Japanese instead, it's better."
He replied, "Chinese is more important. Besides, the only people who learn Japanese are businessmen and otaku." He paused for a bit. "You're an otaku, aren't you?"
I squawked back, "I've only been to two animé conventions!"
"Did you dress up?" he asked in the same tone you'd expect if he were asking "Are you an axe murderer?"
So I got owned by a cashier at a health food store. Siiiiiigh.
On another note, Thundercloud Subs in Austin is awesome.
